PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This Jaeger-LeCoultre ‘Coulissante’ from the early 1940’s features a highly unusual rectangular 18k yellow gold case with a spring levered slider that conceals the dial. This clever construction reflects the innovative spirit of the period and gives the watch a distinctive mechanical and discreet character.

The white dial is features painted Arabic numerals and is signed ‘Fabrique en Suisse’, indicating that the watch was produced in Switzerland for export to the French market. This is confirmed by the hand engraved retailer signature on the case back, ‘A. AUGIS LYON’. A. Augis was a well known jeweller in Lyon, and the store still exists today.

The watch is powered by the Jaeger-LeCoultre Duoplan calibre 409 manual wind movement, a compact and technically advanced movement designed to deliver strong performance in smaller cases.

Measuring 19 mm wide at the slider and 16 mm across the case, with a lug to lug length of 34 mm, this is the largest iteration of the Coulissante model. The size gives it a stronger wrist presence compared to many examples from the period. Based on the movement serial number, production is estimated circa 1942.

– Highly unusual slider case design in great condition
– Largest size ‘Coulissante’ model
– Hand engraved retailer signature A. Augis Lyon
