PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This Jaeger-LeCoultre Duoplan is a charming and highly original example from the 1940’s, housed in a stainless steel case measuring 16 mm wide and 23 mm lug to lug. Its compact proportions are typical of the period, while the overall design remains elegant and remarkably wearable today.
The watch features an original two-tone salmon dial, one of its most attractive and unusual characteristics. The warm salmon colour is complemented by a contrasting outer track and Arabic numerals in a classic 12-3-6-9 layout. A particularly interesting detail is the presence of the ‘Fabrique en Suisse’ signature beneath the Jaeger-LeCoultre logo. This designation was used exclusively on watches destined for the French market and indicates that this example was originally sold in France. Such details are highly appreciated by collectors, as they provide an additional layer of historical context and originality.
Jaeger-LeCoultre earned the nickname ‘The watchmaker’s watchmaker’, because many of the world’s most prestigious brands relied on the manufacture for their movements. Throughout the 20th century, Jaeger-LeCoultre supplied high grade calibres to houses such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet, and Cartier. The Duoplan was one of the innovations that helped establish this reputation. Its clever two level movement architecture allowed Jaeger-LeCoultre to create small wristwatches without compromising precision, demonstrating the technical ingenuity that would make the manufacture one of the most respected names in Swiss watchmaking.
