PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This Longines Sommatore ‘Stop Seconde’ is a rare and exceptionally well-preserved example from 1946, confirmed by the Longines Extract from the Archives. Watches from this period with these details are already uncommon, but finding one in this configuration and condition is truly exceptional.
The stainless steel case measures 32.5 mm with a 40 mm lug to lug length and remains in outstanding condition. The highlight is undoubtedly the original black gilt dial with silver Arabic numerals. As the light catches the surface, the gilt finishing creates remarkable depth and contrast, giving the watch a character that can only be found on original gilt dials from the 1930’s and 1940’s.
Power comes from the Longines calibre 12.68Z STOP, one of the manufacture’s finest manual wind movements of the period. This example is the desirable Sommatore execution of the ‘Stop Seconde’ model, a rarely encountered variation that adds another layer of collectability. Confirmed by the Longines Extract from the Archives and preserved in exceptional condition, this is a remarkable opportunity to acquire one of Longines’ most attractive post-war wristwatches.
