PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This Patek Philippe reference 2584 is a refined and technically important Calatrava from the late 1950’s, housed in a large 18k yellow gold case measuring 36 x 41 mm. The case was made by F. Baumgartner (Geneva key no. 2), a respected case maker also responsible for the iconic Patek Philippe reference 2526.
The connection to the reference 2526 is evident, not only through the case maker but also in the presence of the large ‘PP’ crown. While the 2526 features a screw down case back, this reference 2584 is fitted with a high pressure snap on case back, maintaining a slim and elegant profile.
The dial is beautifully preserved and features raised enamel with subsidiary seconds. Applied 18k yellow gold baton markers match the handset, while the large Arabic ‘12’ at the top adds character and balance to the otherwise clean layout.
Power comes from the Patek Philippe calibre 12 600AT movement, one of the brand’s most celebrated early self winding calibres. Based on the movement number 765.XXX, production is estimated circa 1958. The watch is fitted with a hand made leather strap in 1950’s style (18-14 mm), and comes with an 18k yellow gold AW buckle.
