PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This Patek Philippe reference 96 is the quintessential Calatrava and one of the most important dress watch designs ever produced. The 18k yellow gold case was made by Antoine Gerlach and measures 30.5 mm, offering classic proportions exactly as originally intended.
The movement is the Patek Philippe calibre 12-0120, and is considered as the 2nd series movement for the Patek Philippe ref. 96. Based on the movement serial number 920XXX and available serial number charts, production is estimated circa 1947. Around 1948, Patek Philippe transitioned from the long signature ‘Patek Philippe & Co.’ or ‘Patek Philippe & Cie’ to the shorter ‘Patek Philippe’ signature. This example still features the long raised enamel script, which supports the earlier dating and adds historical importance.
As the majority of the vintage Patek Philippe watches, the dial has been cleaned in the past. What’s important is that it remains original and retains its raised enamel long signature. In addition, the watch is fitted with its original Patek Philippe leather strap, completing the classic configuration. This is the most iconic and recognisable configuration of the reference 96, pure, balanced, and historically correct.
