This Rolex Datejust is one of the brand’s most iconic models, with a legacy dating back to 1945. It was revolutionary as the first waterproof, automatic wristwatch to feature a date window. In the early 1950’s, the Datejust evolved with rare models like the ref. 6105, also known as the “Ovettone” or “Big Bubble Back.” This refined design stood out with its larger 36 mm case and unique configurations, such as elegant dial markers and distinctive design elements that captured the essence of high-end watchmaking at the time.

This 1952 Rolex Ovettone is an extraordinary find, with details like a beautifully patinated dial and a solid pink gold case. Its cream-colored dial has developed a vintage patina over time, complemented by the original “Super Oyster Crown,” ensuring water resistance at the time, without needing to screw down the crown. The condition of the watch, makes this a highly desirable piece. A fun fact about this 6105 reference is, is that the bezel is integrated on the case (it cannot be removed). This is why, finding a well-preserved example like this, is a very challenging task: Once these watches are badly polished, it’s beautiful chamfers cannot be re-obtained.

A rose gold case is a rare feature on early Rolex ‘Ovettone’ watches, since most examples have been executed in yellow gold. A real collectors detail! Furthermore, the date disc is all red (not roulette). Matching with the date disc, the beautifully patinated and original dial features the ‘OCC’-script (OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED CHRONOMETER), with the first line being executed in the sought-after red text.
